The world is opening back up to the masses as some COVID restrictions continue to subside. We now have the luxury and ability to eat in restaurants again, shop for clothes and do other recreational activities. We can also add art exhibits to the list of possibilities as there are so many exhibits just waiting to be explored. In case you are having trouble deciding where to begin your journey, here are five art exhibits in NYC you must visit this fall.

This new art exhibit can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The new woman of the 1920s is a heartfelt yet groundbreaking expression of modernity. This was an era of woman empowerment. The exhibit showcases over 120 photographers from over 20 countries and features the photography of the “new” women who embraced their cameras as a professional and artistic form of expression. The timeline is from the 1920s to the 1950s. Photography was a visual testimony for women to show their emotions, personal experience, and the changes both social and political of a transforming age. This is the first exhibition of its kind that highlights international women photographers’ work.

This exhibit is held at the Whitney Museum of American Art. It provides its guests with a new perspective of art. It forces guests to look at ideas surrounding abstraction, feminism, pop culture, and queer aesthetics in a unique never before seen way. The work displayed shows how their techniques grew throughout history through weaving, sewing, and pottery. Meanwhile, other artists experimented with clay, beads, glass, and other materials. The purpose of this art is to change or challenge power structures that determine artistic value. It shows how artists for decades analyze the strategies, methods, and materials through their self-taught techniques.
