York College had its Annual Club Fair on Thursday March 7 for students to get a chance to know the clubs running at York and the benefits they bring. The fair offered students opportunities to explore interests, build communities, and develop leadership skills. Funded by student activity fees, clubs at York are intended to create a sense of belonging, foster personal growth, and provide platforms for networking with like-minded peers. Joining clubs allows students to engage in extracurricular activities beyond academics, contributing to a well-rounded college experience.
Club Council President Nelsy Pierre said she expected this year’s fair to have a sense of community building to help students get involved with campus events and activities and to have clubs that engage in various of their interests outside of their majors. A list of clubs at York is available on the college website, showing the variety of extracurricular the school has to offer.
The York website also lists inactive clubs like the York College Drama Club, Brotherhood Sisterhood Society and many others. Pierre mentioned that most of these inactive clubs were started by students in the past, but once those people graduated it was hard for other students to pick up the mantle to continue the club. Any student interested in reviving a dormant club or creating a new one are encouraged to do so.
