Kamlawattie Singh, an International Business major at York College, has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, maintaining an impressive 3.909 GPA while managing a demanding workload. She is among a growing number of students pursuing international business—a field that has seen a 30 percent increase in enrollment over the last decade according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
“I chose this career primarily because I have high hopes for my life and my dreams, and I wanted to combine the two,” said Singh.
Singh’s interest in International Business was sparked through coursework that introduced her to the complexities of global trade and commerce. However, her passion for traveling played a significant role in her career choice.
“I’ve always wanted a job that would allow me to travel beyond borders,” Singh said.
With 35 percent of international business jobs involving regular travel or relocation, professionals in the field often attend trade shows, conferences, and client meetings to build relationships and understand foreign markets according to the International Business Guide.
Singh sees herself thriving in this dynamic environment, where inspecting facilities, ensuring quality control, and negotiating contracts in person are integral parts of the job.
Despite her rigorous schedule, Singh is set to graduate a year early—a testament to her discipline and determination.
“What sets me apart is that I’m graduating a year early while maintaining a strong GPA, which I would say shows my dedication and ability to balance a heavy workload,” Singh said and adds, “I’ve always been someone who pushes myself to learn and grow, not just in the classroom.”
Singh gives credit to her time management skills. She prioritizes assignments, maintains a daily task list, and stays focused on her studies, ensuring she meets deadlines and excels in her coursework. She attributes most of her motivation to the unwavering support of her family, especially her father, whose encouragement has been invaluable.
“Don’t limit yourself. Do everything you can and push beyond your limits. Life is precious, so seize every opportunity and don’t let anything hold you back,” said Singh.
