Police arrested over 30 unionized faculty and staff members who were protesting outside CUNY’s Board of Trustees’ hearing at John Jay College on Monday, Oct. 21.
Union president James Davis, of Professional Staff Congress, representing 30,000 faculty and staff at CUNY, had his microphone silenced inside the hearing, followed by a recess according to reports in The Daily News and the union’s website.
More than 100 faculty and staff filed out of the auditorium chanting “No business as usual!” and “Real raises! Job Security! Contract Now!” while holding up signs.
Board officials said they muted Davis’ microphone because he had not registered to speak prior to the hearing.

New Internship Program with LaGuardia Gateway Partners
LaGuardia Gateway Partners, the manager and developer of LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B, launched an enhanced aviation management internship program here at York College..
The new program will be selecting one exceptional student per semester to furnish with firsthand insight into airport terminal management.
Many students who have participated in an earlier version of the program have received full-time employment after graduating from college.
York College Employee-of-the-Month
Campus Safety Assistant (CSA) Officer Stafford Jackson was named the first employee-of-the-month in a new program established by President Claudia Shrader to recognize employees who have exceeded their work expectations.
Jackson is a former police officer who has been working at York College since 2017. He was nominated by Sergeant William White Jr. who praised Jackson’s leadership and his ability to stay calm in hostile situations.
