On Feb. 17 hip hop artists Fat Joe and Remy Ma released a joint album together called Plata O Plomo. The album is 12 songs long. Fat Joe and Remy Ma talk about the time they spent in prison, growing up in the Bronx, having money, spending money, love and more on the album.
The album includes the hit All the Way Up and other songs like Warning, Swear to God and Spaghetti. For the album Remy Ma and Fat Joe got help from major label record producers Cool & Dre. The tracks featured some of the biggest recording artists. Kent Jones, French Montana, Sevyn Streeter, BJ The Chicago kid, Ty Dolla $ign, and many more.
Even though Fat Joe and Remy Ma are in a great place now, it took a long time for them to get there. Hip-Hop-artist Big Pun who passed away in 2006 was the one who found Remy Ma. She soon became apart of Fat Joe’s crew, Terror Squad.
Remy Ma was soon known for her verses on M.O.P.’s Ante Up (Remix) in 2000. She was also featured on Fat Joe’s Lean Back in 2004 and her two rap battles against female rapper Lady Luck.
In 2006 Remy Ma released her debut album There’s Something About Remy: Based On a True Story. When the album came out, it didn’t do as well as she anticipated or get the publicity she wanted. Remy Ma blamed Fat Joe and quickly departed from him.
Things got worse for Remy Ma just a few months after her album released. Remy Ma’s rap career was derailed in 2007. She was arrested and convicted on weapons and assault charges. Allegedly Remy Ma shot her friend because of an argument over money and she served six years, four months and five days in jail.
Rapper Fat Joe is best known for his songs Lean Back and Make it Rain. Fat Joe’s solo career includes 13 albums including Represent, Jealous Ones Envy, Don Cartagena, Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E), Loyalty, Me Myself and I, Jealous Ones Still Envy 2 (J.O.S.E.2), and The Darkside Vol 1,2 and 3.
Fat Joe’s career has not been an easy. His feud with rapper 50 cent went on for years until the two rappers took the stage at the BET awards doing a tribute for Chris Lighty, an American music industry executive that passed away, whom both rappers had worked with. Fat Joe in 2013 also went to jail for four months for tax evasion.
While Remy Ma was in jail her and her old friend Fat Joe reconciled their problems through phone call. Fat Joe said in interviews on Power 105.1 and The Breakfast Club that he was surprised to hear from her and the way she treated him really hurt because he was pushing and fighting for her.
In 2014 Remy Ma was released from jail. Wasting no time Remy Ma put out a mix tape called I’m Around and released videos of a remix she did for rapper Bobby Shmurda’s song “Hot *****” and DJ Khaled’s song They Don’t Love You No More.
Fat Joe and Remy Ma later started working on their joint album together Plata O Plomo. To promote their album Fat Joe and Remy Ma appeared on shows The Real Daytime, The Wendy Williams Show, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. They also promoted the project on radio shows like, The Breakfast Club, Power 105.1, Power 106, Angie Martinez, Power 105.1, DJ Vlad, Big Boy TV, HOT 97 and more. Remy Ma also was filming a new season of the reality show Love and Hip Hop New York on VH1. While the Plata O Plomo album was being anticipated by fans to come out, Remy Ma put out remix singles to female rapper Young MA’s “OOOUUU” and rapper A Boogie’s song “My ****.”
While Fat Joe has been working on his label, tying to sign new artists and promote the Plata O Plomo album, Remy Ma as an independent artist, has been featured on songs and in music videos for Wait a Minute with rapper Phresher, “FAB” with singer JOJO, and has made appearances in her husband’s, rapper Papoose, music videos Black Love and Back On My.
In an interview with American television host, Wendy Williams, Remy Ma thanked her husband Papoose, her kids, her family and her friends for sticking by her “in that tough time.” She also talked about not keeping a lot of people around her. She learned her lesson from the incident that took place that night that changed her life.
In an interview with American radio personality Angie Martinez, Remy Ma told her “It’s not gonna be fair my pen game is crazy.”
Remy Ma was not lying. On Feb. 25 she put out a song called Sheather a diss song about rapper Nicki Minaj. In the song Remy Ma talks about Nicki Minaj’s body, Nicki’s relationships, her money, her label mates and her brother allegedly being a pedophile.
With their new album just coming out and now this song, Remy Ma is the talk of the industry. In a latest interview Fat Joe said on 107.5 WGCI radio show he didn’t know Remy Ma was putting out a track towards Nicki Minaj and where she is from, you have to respond back.
Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s album continues to climb the charts, they said their next single will be Heartbreak featuring artist The-Dream. Remy Ma is in the latest video You with her good friend in the industry Keyshia Cole, alongside rapper French Montana.
Fat Joe and Remy Ma continue to promote their album and Remy Ma is in the studio now working on her solo album that she calls Seven Winters & Six Summers.
“I’m just having a lot of fun with it. It’s amazing already,” said Remy Ma in an interview with RAP-UP.
