Zaria Neptune scores four goals as the York Women’s Soccer Team blanks Medgar Evers 10-0.
The York College women’s soccer team claimed their second victory in the CUNYAC championship with a decisive 10-0 score against the Medgar Evers College Cougars on Saturday, October 12th at Corona Park, according to the York Athletics website.
Zaria Neptune scored the first game-defining goal just nine seconds after the whistle blew. After Stephanie Ramirez scored and doubled York’s advantage at the 2:47 mark, Neptune doubled back to score twice in the 10th and 17th minutes to secure her first career hat-trick, with the help of her teammates Alisha Adams and Emelin Cajamarca, respectively. Brithney Bielma scored York’s sixth goal at the 27 minute mark with Cajamarca’s assistance, and then Neptune scored her career-high fourth goal at the 40 minute mark to send the Cardinals into the second half with an impressive 7-0 lead.
In the second half, a concerted team effort led to Rebecca McKenzie and Zainab Gedel both scoring a goal each, and the effort was capped off with Kresanta Jones scoring the 10th and final goal off a penalty kick.
Though Medgar Evers tried valiantly to push back aggressively, The Cardinal’s defense held firm as both their shots on goal bounced off the crossbar at the 64th and 67th minute mark.
Overall, York finished with a dominant 15-0 advantage on shots on goal, and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
